Ever Feel Like a Speck of Dust? (Hubble pictures put things in focus)
Guess what? You ARE a speck of dust, compared to the vastness of the universe. Looking at these pictures is kinda overwhelming, like, if the size of the universe is unfathomable, then why bother even trying to explore it?
We will never have the satisfaction of knowing in our lifetime what it's all about, but that should not stop us from searching. Our life span here on earth is less than a micro second in time compared to the age of the universe, so enjoy your stay while you are here as a guest on "Good Planet Earth". Try to make our little corner of space a better place for the next generation. Include love in all your decision making and you will be on the right path.
Yes, you are just a speck of dust, but you are also part of a spirit that is big as the sky, and all the universe beyond.
Enjoy these pictures taken by the Hubble telescope!
(The Hubble has expanded our understanding of star birth, star death, and galaxy evolution. It has moved black holes from a theory to a fact.)
The Sombrero Galaxy - 28 million light years from Earth - was voted best picture taken by the Hubble telescope. The dimensions of the galaxy, officially called M104, are as spectacular as its appearance. It has 800 billion suns and is 50,000 light years across. Yeah.
The Ant Nebula, a cloud of dust and gas whose technical name is Mz3, resembles an ant when observed using ground-based telescopes. The nebula lies within our galaxy between 3,000 and 6,000 light years from Earth.
In third place is Nebula NGC 2392, called Eskimo because it looks like a face surrounded by a furry hood. The hood is, in fact, a ring of comet-shaped objects flying away from a dying star. Eskimo is 5,000 light years from Earth.
At four is the Cat's Eye Nebula
The Hourglass Nebula, 8,000 light years away, has a pinched-in-the-middle look because the winds that shape it are weaker at the centre.
Awesome. Enjoy your day!
