Hurt & confused

I have been dating my boyfriend for 3 years now. However we have recently split. He says he wants to work things out with me. You see, he has lied and cheated and this has hurt me greatly. He has apologized and cried and begged to work things out with me. But I do not know what to think or feel.

I love him deeply. Can people really change? My heart wants to let him back into my life but my brain is saying no. When we were together he was very good to me so this all came as a shock. He admits his mistake and repeatedly apologizes. But I am so confused I don't know what to do. So any suggestions would be appreciated.
