I Can't Ask Her Out

So here's the deal; I'm secretly in love with her for 3 or 4 years now and I know that at least she was in love with me (even if she isn't now). My problem is that she is the ex-girlfriend of my friend; but I loved her long before that happened. Ever heard the expression "an eye for an eye"? That's what I did to my friend. When they broke up I started dating another girl who my friend wanted, even if I didn't love her. So now I can't get the one I love because of all that xxx! I don't know for sure if she loves me or is it just my imagination? I don't want to ruin our friendship even if it's just that: friendship. What the heck can I do except killing myself? It's the only girl I really love. No one else gave me such feelings before.
