My best friend...in his 30's...told my 16 yr old daughter he is in love with her...Is this illegal?

Hi...I've been looking for an answer online to the above question. My best friend of MANY years claims to have developed intense feelings for my 16 year old daughter. She's beautiful and still innocent. He had the nerve to tell my daughter and I didn't find out till more than a day later. She was uncomfortable with his declaration of love to her and I don't blame her. I love my friend..but I love my daughter above all others...and that is not the kind of love he is feeling. I'm sick to my stomach over this and want to know if what he did is illegal? Thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer from Stella:

I am not an attorney, and cannot give legal advice. My guess is that his declaration of love is not illegal. If he had sex with her, that would be statutory rape.

In any case, what he did is inappropriate. I would cut ties with him immediately!

Hope this helps!

He is no longer around...in fact. He left the state. It's hard losing my friend, but I agree, what he did was highly inappropriate. I'm very protective of my daughter and had to let him go as soon as I found out. My daughter was extremely uncomfortable about it and she doesn't need any more stress than what a teenager already faces in life. Thank you for answering my question...it really did help!
