MEDITATION
DO NOT let the word "meditation" scare you away. Meditation is
not about
Indian swamis or zoned-out hippies... it is about emotional survival. It
is one of the easiest and best tools for stress-reduction I know. Practiced
regularly, it provides calming serenity and enhances your quality of life.
Meditation is a medically proven technique
which provides physical stress relief. It decreases your heart rate, breathing
rate and blood pressure. It lowers anxiety levels and can help with insomnia.
The benefits are profound... physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. And
yet... it's so simple to do and easy to learn. So what exactly is meditation?
Quiet relaxation... you close your eyes and quiet your mind... gently returning
your thoughts again and again to a simple focus of attention. That's it! It only
takes 20-30 minutes a day, and the repercussions
will astound you.
How can you learn to meditate? Get some guided imagery tapes or instructional
books at the bookstore, or follow our easy to understand (and free) guide at
Learn To Meditate. Make meditation a part of
your daily life... you'll be glad you did.

EXERCISE
[Please don't skip this section]
Exercise can be very beneficial when you are feeling stressed out. Often when
you are laid low by anxiety, worry or emotional pain, exercise takes a back seat. This is a big mistake! If you can exercise even a little
(a brisk walk around the block) it can help clear that accumulated fog and
tension. Exercise gives you the strength to manage stress with less energy loss.
It is nature's tranquilizer and also helps you to sleep better.
You don't have to sign up at an expensive gym to accomplish this. In fact,
exposing your flabby, sweaty body to strangers could even increase your anxiety
level!
Unless you are used to total gym workouts, start at home, by walking,
jogging or bicycling. Get outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Find what's
comfortable for you and do it for half an hour, every other day. Try to
get your heart rate up a little, even for a short time. As you exercise, try to
be conscious not to replay negative thoughts and worries. Just for now, focus on
your breathing and the beautiful day that you have been handed!

DIET, WATER & VITAMINS
Natural remedies for anxiety...
What you put into your body can most definitely affect your stress and anxiety
levels. Why? Food, water and minerals control your metabolism in many
interrelated ways. We won't go into the complicated chemical processes, just
know that sugar and stimulants are major players, as is hydration/dehydration.
- WATER: It is a little known fact that keeping your body
well-hydrated can help reduce anxiety. One of the most easily implemented
and effective stress-busters is plenty of fresh water! Why? It helps
distribute important hormones, chemical messengers, and nutrients to vital
organs, including your brain. Try to drink 6-8 glasses of fresh water daily.
Simple. Effective. Not soda or tea*. Water.
[*Try to cut way down on coffee,
tea, and cola for your trial month. Caffeine can push you into an anxiety
attack all by itself!]
- DIET: It is well known that proper nutrition can also help combat
excess stress and anxiety in your body.
You've heard it all before, but it is so important and easy to control that we
repeat it here: cut down on salt, sugar, high-fat, and refined or processed
foods. Taking control and treating your body right puts you on the right path to
controlling your high anxiety as well. Try a diet rich in grains, lean meats,
fruits and vegetables.
- VITAMINS & MINERALS: Stoke your body with stress-fighting
vitamins and minerals. Get a stress-tab vitamin with plenty of B-complex,
and take it daily. Other proven stress supplements you might want to add:
*Vitamin B12
*Magnesium Citrate
*Omega-3 Oils

HERBALS
Natural remedies for anxiety...
Many people suffering from anxiety turn to prescription medication. Why? They
are desperate for a quick fix to their problem! While medication may prove
necessary in some extreme situations, people (often with the help of their physicians) tend to
overmedicate.
Anxiety medication like Ativan, Xanax and Valium may prove helpful for occasional acute anxiety attacks, but they are horribly overused and
over-prescribed. Daily use of these chemicals quickly leads to addiction... a
new and serious problem you don't need right now!
[WARNING: Under no
circumstances should you stop taking prescription medication "cold" without
consulting your doctor. You can go into withdrawal, end up in the ER, and have
seizures, or worse. These medicines must be weaned off gradually.]
It's worth checking out alternative methods, in case something simple helps. And
many times, herbal remedies are just as effective for occasional help on anxious
days as pharmaceutical anxiolytics. Herbal remedies are mostly free
of side effects. You can safely stop taking them after a couple of months, without any fear of withdrawal symptoms or psychological
dependence.
These are the major natural herbal remedies for anxiety:
- Kava kava: is an approved herbal treatment for stress in many
European countries. It does not have a drowsy side effect. Kava kava is as effective as a tranquilizer and is used for treating anxiety,
insomnia and also alcohol withdrawal. It is not readily available in the US.
[Caution: do not use kava kava if you are already taking tranquilizers,
sleeping pills or antidepressants. Also, avoid alcohol and do not take kava kava
if you have Parkinson’s disease.]
St. John’s Wort: is a good alternative to antidepressants and helps relieve
anxiety too. It needs to be taken for several weeks to start seeing benefit. It has
a few minor side effects but is not addictive.
[Caution: If you are already taking an antidepressant, do not use St. John’s Wort. Also, it may make you more sensitive to the sun, so remember to use a
sunscreen when going out.]
Passion Flower: (Passiflora incarnata)
is regarded very highly by traditional herbalists for its soothing
properties as a general nerve tonic. It has active ingredients including
flavonoids, cyanogenic glycosides, alkaloids and saparin, natural aids for
the nervous system. Passion Flower has stood up well to clinical studies
which support its traditional use as a soothing and moderating herb.
Valerian root: is a natural
substitute for diazepam (Valium). It is non-addictive and very useful for
relieving anxiety and inducing sleep. Unlike sleeping pills, you do not wake
up feeling groggy.
[Caution: Do not take valerian if you already taking sedatives like
Phenobarbital or benzodiazepine.]
Native Remedies is a leading manufacturer of quality homeopathic

irritability and insomnia due to worry. Both products are 100% safe,
non-addictive, natural herbal remedies especially formulated by a Clinical
Psychologist:
